An event set 140 years in the future cannot be changed. Well, there might be a way to change it but there are great risks involved to do so. Oh! And did I mention it will take the work of teenagers from three different time periods to do so? Dora is from 1640, Kaz is from 2014 and Jana is from 2141. To make things better, none of them know they can travel through time, but they are about to.
In future NYC, Jana is being chased and chooses to jump off a skyscraper instead of being caught. The problem? Jana never hits the ground.
In 1640 Cornwall, Dora leaves her family to work in Sweetclover Hall for a wealthy couple. Tender Dora hears a loud noise one morning and discovers a severely burned woman at the bottom of a set of stairs. Dora tries to lend the woman a hand and is thrust into the future and awakens in an empty laboratory room.
In present-day Cornwall, Kaz has decided to run away and sneaks into an abandoned Sweetclover Hall to try to sleep. Waiting for him are Dora and Jana, neither of which has a story that makes sense to him. A mysterious man known only as “Steve” comes to their aid in an attempt to rescue them and set them on the path to preventing an unpreventable future event.
TimeBomb begins a journey for these three teenagers that takes them across countries and centuries. The three teens must find a way to develop a power none knew they could have and can only harness together in order to save the future. All while avoiding capture and death at the hands of a masked villain known only as ‘Quil’. Add in the nefarious Lord Sweetclover and a fanatical army and our protagonists have much to contend with on their journey.
Not all is revealed in TimeBomb as it shouldn’t be. That is where Second Lives takes over. I urge you to be patient as it takes time to develop characters especially those from three different centuries. In the end, you will not be disappointed by the story. The books are fast paced with danger at every time jump.
The author manages to give the characters and the reader a lesson with regards to time travel that was needed and interesting. Of course this lesson would take place in a room in the distant future on Mars and that is what makes this series wonderful. Picture Back to the Future but more complex yet easy to understand. You will not need a Physics degree to understand all the variables that are prevented. However, interesting points are raised with regards to invention in the timeline.
In the end, there is a lot these teens must deal with and quickly. It will be very interesting to see how this all turns out when The New World is released later in 2017. I for one am looking forward to this finish and cannot wait to see how this ends.
Be sure to check back on Monday April 3rd for an interview with author Scott K. Andrews, himself!
